Repost from @tapactivists —
This is what we are fighting against. Yesterday, our team took a trip to the shelter in Ensenada and left with 7 new rescue dogs in tow, to bring to the US for amazing new lives. As we sat in the border line, we were bombarded by this nightmare of puppy selling. There were SO many puppies— more than we’ve ever seen. Poodle mixes, Chi mixes, Pugs, Huskies, you name it. All vendors claimed the dogs were 2 months old at minimum, but many were clearly much younger and still didn’t have any teeth. They were being pulled out of backpacks like belongings, not living creatures. They were dropped on our laps through the open window of our car door, because these vendors play on emotions and want you to feel connected to the puppy. It works all too well. The asking price per puppy ranged from $150-380 and every time we told the seller we were not interested, they wanted to barter and asked us what we would like to pay. Each puppy came with fake shot records and papers. We questioned these guys— Why do the “5 month old puppies” you are selling have no teeth? Where is mom? Why do they look sick? And at this point, they could tell we were not going to buy and quickly and resentfully moved along.
Our hearts break every time. We so badly want to take these puppies out of this situation and give them the life they deserve. But doing so is perpetuating the problem, and giving a reason for the continuous breeding and selling of young, sick, and undernourished puppies. We want to change this for good. Help us come together as a community to put a stop to the cruelty. Together, we can and WILL make a difference for these innocent souls. Join the movement, and do it for them. 💚🐾✊
